How do I install the driver?
Windows 8: Driver is not needed.
Windows XP / Vista / 7: Connect your DS to your computer first and close any windows that pop up before running the installer. If you prefer to do a manual installation, driver files are available here.

DS doesn't work after installing the board (won't turn on, or top screen doesn't work).
The screen cables need to be reinserted. Make sure the small cable is facing the right way. Make sure cables are straight and fully inserted when locking them in place.

How to record stuff?
The provided software (ds_capture.exe) can save AVI files. The board won't appear as a standard capture device (like a webcam, etc) to other software. If you want to use another program for recording, you'll need one capable of doing screen capture (Camtasia, Fraps, XSplit, etc) or install a DirectShow screen capture filter.

What settings should I use?
Of the default Windows codecs, Microsoft Video 1 is probably best, or you can try installing a new one. Some suggestions -

• Lossless codecs (perfect quality, but files are larger): x264 or Lagarith.
• Lossy codecs (sacrifice some quality for better file compression): Xvid.

Video has poor quality or doesn't record smoothly.

• Try adjusting the codec quality settings.
• Close other CPU intensive applications.
• Set the priority of the capture app to "High" in Windows Task Manager.
• Try a different codec.

I can't hear audio on my PC / audio isn't being recorded.
Check Windows recording mixer settings. Check the audio cable. The DS headphone jack should be connected to your PC's Line In jack. See related forum topic here.
