Try using a different port and maybe a different USB cable. Other users have reported doing that to resolve their issue.

Yes, that ribbon cable with the holes is meant for audio to pass through the USB-C cable. I also tried soldering the ribbon cable myself but found it kicking my butt (I'm very much inexperienced as well when it comes to soldering), but it's not fully required if you're willing to use a 3.5mm audio c...

Have you considered trying a Ground Loop Noise Isolator? I used one to remove the static from the audio, and it works like a charm too. I know you found a solution, but I'm just throwing it out there.
