When it's being used to capture footage while connected to the pc it will automatically be charging from that port, but while using it as a handheld you can charge via the charger. Sorry I should have been more clearer.

Speaking from someone who has a ds phat capture card. You will still have the normal ds charger to use, but also it will be charged through the micro usb port that gets added on to it. Hope that makes sense.
