The IR port is not removed. This is what Katsukity does.

Loopy currently does not yet offer a mod for the XL There are several threads in this forum in regards to the 3DS XL capture mod.

Try reinstalling the video codec. Also what player are you using? Try resizing the window size in case VLC (or whatever you are using) does not automatically resize the window correctly.
