Recording is good but preview is blank

Post by OrbitalMike » Sat Oct 27, 2012 2:15 am

So mine just came in, and first I want to say thanks of course.

But anyway I have 2 main issues at the moment and I'll go step by step to see if I messed up somewhere.

So I get home and plug it in (windows 7), and it installed without any issues, I didn't use the drivers and went to device manager to update them with the drivers and windows tells me that they're up to date.

After that I open the capture software and everything is completely blank -

And if I click change view, I can see the screens but they're really dim -

But if I maximize my view on one of the windows, they're totally bright - http://i.imgur.com/3fAuk.png

I'm not sure what's going on, it's blank if I view it normally and dim if I change the view and bright if I maximize it. However I can record (using the built in capture software) though if I want to give it a shot with anything else it will be blank. Please and thank you señor.

I also have another question but I'm going to pm you on that one.

Try going into your video card settings and set Mipmap Detail Level to max quality. I had the same problem about the dim screens and tracked it down o that.

Took me a good minute to find that, but I got it

(Hell yeah Rhythm Thief)

My only other issue now is that...well I'm using a laptop and using the mic in as a line in since....well laptop. Though for whatever reason part of the right sound is missing. If no one can help with that it's fine, I'm getting a desktop in the near future but any other help is appreciated. This is the laptop I'm using for future reference - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834220821

That's because the mic-in only captures a mono source instead of stereo, at least this was a problem I had for a while. You need a line-in port, but this laptop apparently only has mic-in and sound-out ports. You could try a usb soundcard like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6829126101

I'll grab it later on today, also I also uploaded a video to test it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JATm-dHsXs#t=18m37s - (this makes me wish I had a desktop, but for portability this thing isn't bad)

Anyway thanks I'll definitely buy it and give an update later.

Welp after awhile, I bought it and it works wonders.

*excuse the slightly messy desk*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqkK7_MAnUw - Here's the video which I've test it with though because I derped, the sound might be loud in some places.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JATm-dHsXs#t=1150s - And here without it (lower your volume, because again I messed up).

And now my next question....what's the ideal volume the line in port should be at and what is the ideal position for the volume slider of the 3ds?

That way I don't have anything too loud or anything and again, thanks in advance.

So mic-in always just converts it to mono? My 3DS and games are set to Stereo, and I use a mic-in port with no sound issues.
