So, I just ordered a controller mod for my 2ds. I have some 20 awg wire, but I am afraid that is a bit too thick. What gauge of wire should I use to ensure it fits and that it is still able to transfer enough current to work?

You should use AWG 32.

Would this be a good example of what to buy? :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnet-Wire-32-AWG-Gauge-Enameled-Copper-2oz-611ft-200C-Magnetic-Coil-Winding-/251137784500?hash=item3a78fa7ab4:g:E6cAAOSwTZ1XlpAN

Or should I invest in something higher in quality?

and I would get it as AWG 32.

Okay, last post (hopefully haha), sorry for the multiple requests on feedback.

I found this which I believe is Kynar, but is sadly 30 awg: http://www.awcwire.com/productspec.aspx?id=ul-1422-kynar

If I could get a custom order of 32 awg, think this would be suitable?

To do the install you will have to route it from the bottom side of the board, so AWG 30 is too stiff...
