About charging over USB.

At maximum load (capture card active, while charging a dead battery) the 3DS can pull nearly 1A of current, that's twice what the USB2.0 spec allows. Odds are good that most computers are ok with it anyway, but I'd rather play it safe. I can add some current limiting circuitry later, but these boards don't have it. USB3 ports allow for more power. This is only about staying inside USB2 specs.

So, UNLESS you tell me you want them added in, I'm going to leave the charging wires unconnected.

If the only issue from attaching the charging wires is on the computer side then I’m okay with you connecting them on my 3DS. My computer just has Thunderbolt 4 ports and the Caldigit TS4 docking station I have doesn’t have anything older than usb 3.1, with the lowest rated amperage being 1.5A. But if it might cause other issues (like continuing to charge the battery after its fully charged and damaging it) then nevermind.

My 3DS should be delivered on Tuesday, so I’ll email you I’m okay with it before then if you’d like.

It wont overcharge. There are circuits on the console itself that control that. You would be fine for the charge wires.

Sent out my 3DS last week via UPS and checked back on it today, says it has arrived, hopefully that’s correct. I sent a DM to you last week, Loopy, I also put a note in the package, should be written in pen on a UPS print out sheet.

I had a question - anything I should do in order to prepare for when you put them up for sale? Are you allowing them to be sent in for installation? Preinstalled? (I plan on getting a JPN N3ds LL soon, I think I saw a portion of the thread where you said region doesn't matter)

Alright, just got a New 3DS XL. Tested it, loaded my games on it, poked around inside it to familiarize myself with the components (and I thought I broke a zif connector, but the clip just popped off and I fit it back on, it was a close call). I'm ready to pull off this mod when it's available.

An early sale for the N3DS XL capture cards went live which is going to be used for testing, so this was very limited. If enough people are happy with the product, loopy will formally start sales sometime in the future where he will hopefully have a bigger stock to go through.

Just got mine in the mail. Install is very clean Loopy, and it looks amazing. My D-pad was acting wonky but it works now that I changed out the D-Pad PCB with a spare I had. Gonna livestream soon to put it through it's paces. Really excited to help test these out.
