Drivers won't install (Vista 64)

I've been at this for 4 days now. I've tried to manually install the drivers, but that didn't work. I heard updating the Vista service pack from 1 to 2 solves this, but I can't even get that to work due to the E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000ffff) error. Should I upgrade to Windows 8?

Could you be more specific? What happens when you try to install it manually? How does it look in Device Manager?

Installing SP2 helps, but it isn't required. Installing the drivers is more difficult without it.

This is how it looks in Device Manager:

And when I try to install the drivers I get this:

I believe I've found a solution to upgrade the service pack here: http://tinyurl.com/bo9sjbn
However, no step-by-step guide is given, so I'm really not sure how to add BUILTIN\Users to the ACL on the C drive and give it read access.

Right click on C:, go to Properties. Go to the Security tab. If Users is missing, edit the permissions and add it.

As am I. You've probably done this a dozen times already, but just so we're on the same page -

- Delete the capture device from Device Manager (and delete the driver).

- Unplug it and plug it back in.

- Go through the manual installation again. Follow all the steps below.

Oh, and don't use a USB 3.0 port if possible. I've run into problems with them in the past (due to buggy USB drivers). If it doesn't work, see if you can get SP2 installed. Check out those links I posted earlier (not sure if they'll help, but I searched around and they looked the most promising to me). If it still doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. It might be time for an OS reload. If you put Vista back on, make sure SP2 is one of the first updates you do, so nothing else will interfere with it.

Problem solved. I bought a new computer running Windows 8. Everything works perfectly now. Thanks for your help, Loopy.
