3DS condition okay for capture card?

I ordered the controller mod to install in my original 3DS, and I planned to send it off to get a capture card when orders opened up again. However, while I was installing the controller mod, I damaged the top screen ribbon cable. Everything else works just fine, the top screen is just black. Should I get the top screen replaced before I get the capture card? Or does it not matter for the install?
