Best Settings for Capture Card

Post by C.Bleck2009 » Sat Feb 11, 2023 9:28 pm

Curious what settings does everyone use that maximize video quality while also minimizing file size?

Find the higher settings really eat a lot of GB quickly.

Loopy any recommendations?

If you want maximum quality, your options are limited. I use the MJPEG Compressor codec with quality set to 100. The compression isn't very good since the codec doesn't use interframe compression. However, because the resolution is fairly small, the bitrate isn't too bad compared to capturing from other game systems. For example, the bitrate is considerably lower than what I get when capturing 720p, 60 FPS HDMI footage. I think the MJPEG Compressor codec comes with Windows.

I also tried Lagarith, a lossless codec that produces good video quality and compression in other scenarios, but it didn't work correctly; see this post for details.
