How I record audio in obs using a laptop

Post by Crummel » Mon Jun 05, 2023 12:05 am

Hello! I personally had great trouble finding this out as there were no videos online but I thought it would be helpful for anyone new to this stuff who wants to record audio. My laptop only had a the regular headphone port so plugging the aux into that did not work. I personally bought a DS18 aux cord (male to male), and a usb external sound adapter with a mic and headphone port ($15 total). The aux cord needs to be plugged into the mic port of the usb adapter. Then in obs, add “audio input capture” source, and for device select “microphone usb audio device”. If you want to listen to make sure it’s playing and sounds good, click on the three dots next to one of the audio sources, select “advanced audio properties” and for the input, under audio monitoring select “monitor and output”.

Great topic yes, I always struggle with the same thing.
I can record audio for Pokémon games but the "Pokémon cry" (when a wild Pokémon appears) that part in particular doesnt sound.
With this solution, audio works perfectly?

Would recommend an aux cable, an usb audio grabber that supports stereo and a ground loop isolator.

I think what is happening is you have your audio settings in the Pokémon game set to mono when it should be set to stereo?

I apologize if this seems like a dumb question, but why not just listen to the audio through the USB cable and 3DS capture software? It sounds crystal clear without any distortion or static.

You mean recording DS audio with 3ds software?

I believe they are referring to the original Nintendo DS. It doesn't have USB audio capture support.
