I'm considering replacing the bottom screen on my NEW 3DS XL because of dead pixels. I already have the capture card installed. Would the mod make it ill-advised to take apart my 3DS? Is there anything I should be aware/wary of before I take the system apart to replace the screen?

Replacing the lower screen for the New 3DS XL is not that hard. I think with the capture card installed, you'd have to be careful with how you remove the ribbon cables, being careful not to damage any of the connectors. You're gonna have to detach the ribbon cables that go from the capture board to the bigger ribbon cables (those go to the screens),as well as the ribbon cable that attaches to the lower screen. You should take a look at how the capture board self-installation is done, as well as the iFixit lower screen replacement tutorial for reference, as they're pretty helpful to see how you can put it back together.
