The 3DS switches from surround sound to stereo when you plug in headphones. Change your sound setting to stereo, it should have the same effect. No need to "trick" your 3DS.
Unless your 3DS is hooked up to a surround sound system, it shouldn't be set to surround anyway. You won't get any benefit ...

Not sure if it's just me, but when I record a bit with the audio, I only get the video in the file. Has that just not been implemented yet, or am I just doing it wrong?

Well looks like I forgot to actually LOG IN when I posted the last message...oops. =P
Either way, doesn't matter, I noticed I forgot an important step in my editing process anyway, so I fixed the problem myself, no cause for alarm! Sorry about that... It was my fault.

Alright, just finished my last LP, so now I decided to try out the USB Audio.

I'd vote for Audio over USB. That way I could use my PC360s to record my voice in opposed to my USB Headset, and greatly reduce the amount of wires going into my CPU at the same time. Switching from Line-In to Mic constantly isn't exactly fun either...
