Dumb. Just use a PCB with connector similar to your old DS mod if going that route. Direct soldering on that can and will fail. There will probably be so many chargebacks he will go out of business.

Sounds like your mic is recording along with the 3DS. Mute your mic or get a better noise cancelling mic. The 3DS records through USB so there is no noise being generate from the digital signal.
