There are two good codecs for the capture device (from Loopys FAQ).
  • Lossless codecs (perfect quality, but files are larger): x264 or Lagarith.
  • Lossy codecs (sacrifice some quality for better file compression): Xvid.

My editor is pinnacle studio 14 and when I look at the different types of video output I see one called "Pinnacle MPEG 2 Encoder" When I click on it, it says "This application has failed to start because pcleUtil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." What do I do?
Have you tried reinstalling pinnacle studio?

Like any other Application:
XP: Start → Control Panel → Software → Uninstall Pinnacle.
Vista/W7: Orb → Control Panel → Software → Uninstall Pinnacle.
W8: Settings → Control Panel → Software → Uninstall Pinnacle.

Weird problem, but easily solved, if you still have the Install DVD of your Windows.
