Best solution for "easy" setup with Raspberry Pi and native resolution output to RetroTink 4K/NTRView

Hey guys!

I've been eyeing a New 3DS XL capture set up for some time, hoping there would be an eventual standalone HDMI out solution but it seems like a Raspberry Pi may be the way to go.

I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for a possible setup. I'd like to ideally plug my 3DS into the Pi, automatically outputting the top screen in it's native resolution (similar to a Nintendo Switch) to a RetroTink 4K to handle scaling, then running NTRView on my WiiU to utilize the gamepad as the bottom screen.

To be a little more straight forward, my questions are:
1.) Is there a good "consolized" way to run the Pi so that it will automatically start streaming the top screen in it's native resolution when plugged in, similar to a Nintendo Switch? What would be the best setup for it?
2.) Is there a way to automatically switch the output resolution on the Pi to the DS native resolution when running DS titles? This would greatly help the RetroTink4K with scaling.
3.) Does anyone have any experience using Loopy's capture mod in conjunction with NTRView on a Wii U gamepad? I understand there can be a lag and slight stutter, but this isn't as important to me for the bottom screen. I'm mostly interested in achieving an as-close-to-OEM experience as possible with a bottom screen and controls.

Maybe some of these questions are misplaced with the nature of the mod in general, but Im curious if anyone has any thoughts or experience. Thanks for reading!

1) Use the Pi Kiosk setup of cc3dsfs, and either edit the script used to run cc3dsfs to execute in windowed mode with 1x scaling (which you will be able to crop to on the Retrotink 4K side), or run the regular script with cc3dsfs and use the Retrotink 4K decimation factor feature (assuming it works for HDMI, which I cannot remember) to get back the screen to the native resolution.
Both would work for your idea.
With that said, unless you need to apply certain filters, it may be worth it to output from the Pi at 4k directly and skipping the Retrotink 4k entirely, as you'll get lower latency.
2) Not automatically... There are heuristics you could use, but they could lead to false positives.
But you could simply make a profile on the Retrotink 4k with a different crop size and position.
3) Outside my expertise, honestly.

You're a legend, thank you so much for the thoughtful reply! I'll check out the kiosk setup, hopefully that'll do the trick. Once I get things up and running I'll compare the effects of the RetroTink vs the regular 4k scaling from cc3dsfs.

Looking forward to checking it out, thanks again for the help!
