n3DS capture card doesn't work in open_agb_firm

Post by Dionicio3 » Sun Dec 10, 2023 3:55 am

I just get a black screen with what's supposed to be on the screen occasionally glitching in and out. There's also no sound whatsoever

No Video Feed using Open AGB Firm

Not sure if this is something that can be fixed on the software-side, but open_agb_firm is a way of using Luma to boot .GBA files in native mode, without using a Virtual Console injection.

https://github.com/profi200/open_agb_firm

Its a pretty common\fast way to play GBA games, but unfortunately my New 3DS XL capture installation has issues specifically with this mode. In all other use cases, it will show the main 3DS output. It even displays other Luma\GodMode9 homebrew stuff fine... but specifically booting a GBA game this way causes non-existent output in the capture software (with occasional flickering and audio explosions).

I'm hoping its something on the software\driver side, because it does flicker occasionally with a correct image. It just seems like its having trouble processing the signal? Maybe even some configuration settings would work, but I've tried a few different things with no results.

EDIT: Reported to the developer of open_agb_firm as well and included an image of the "flicker."

Merged with previous thread.

Apparently the top & bottom screens are run at slightly different frame rates, which the capture card didn't know how to cope with. Probably could've been fixed with a firmware update, but it's good to see there was a quick software fix.

https://github.com/profi200/open_agb_firm/issues/171

apparently it has been fixed short while ago and now it's more proper
there are some frames that are not captured properly (some flashing images doesn't show itself on captured)

but still maybe you can make it better with this fix version in mind?
