I've been looking into getting a capture card as soon as I could afford it, and while I'm sad Loopy doesn't have his XL card out yet, I understand he's only one man and can only do so much.
So I've recently been trying to decide if I wanted to buy a second, non-XL 3DS and try to get just a capture board to install myself (especially now that they're back in stock) - my only hesitation is, would I be better off going this route, knowing that his XL card may be weeks (or likely a month or more) out?
It's something I want to do for my stream, and something I wanted to do relatively soon.
I would just get a Katsukity card, but I've been hearing some... issues with theirs as of late, coupled with the way they run their drivers and software kind of has me wary.
Trouble deciding.

Re: Trouble deciding.
Was literally on the same boat as you. But eventually, I caved in, bought a used 3DS from Nintendo, and just sent that one in. It's all in the matter of whether you really want it now or not because considering Loopy is the only person working and he'd be too busy working on anything else due to the orders he receives to work on, chances are the progression for the 3DS XL Capture Card is being slowed down for sure.
So I think it's safe to say there may be no word on the XL one any time soon. Hope this may have helped.

I'm on the exact same boat as the OP. I think I'm just gonna buy a regular 3ds and send it in to get mod. By the time he have the XL capture card out, I'll just send my xl in for mod also. Wasting time waiting on this whole xl cap card is the same as wasting time on a second 3DS anyways. I'll just sell the small 3DS when the xl cap card is out. Or keep it as back up or let my friend play on it so we could do video game cap from 2 point of view.

Re: Trouble deciding.
Pick up a cheap used 3DS on ebay (although they're not THAT cheap... I see broken systems go for 60-70$). I have a couple of refurb capture boards I sell at a discount.

That's what I'm thinking of doing. That or gifting it to a friend who I know wants one once the XL card gets finished.Guest wrote:I'll just sell the small 3DS when the xl cap card is out. Or keep it as back up or let my friend play on it so we could do video game cap from 2 point of view.
I think this is what I'm gonna end up doing. A local store sells them for $140, and while I *could* get a refurb from Nintendo, they're only purple or pink. I might see what selection the store has, even if it's $50 more.loopy wrote:Pick up a cheap used 3DS on ebay (although they're not THAT cheap... I see broken systems go for 60-70$). Is there anything special I'd have to do when ordering, or just note that it for just the board to be sent out?
Also, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
