Footage not registering

I have downloaded the 3DS capture software from the website, but for some reason, when I connect my ds phat capture card to the computer via usb, the footage doesn’t come up and only shows a black screen on 3DS capture software. What should I do to get the footage from the ds to be recognized by the computer?

Does your computer recognize that it's plugged in? Does it show up in Device manager?
Does the software show that it's connected?

You might need to install the driver first.
