How to record audio with a headphone/mic combo jack?

I'm going to get a new laptop sometime soon and I'm wondering how you record audio with newer models since the headphone and microphone jack are the same jack. Does it work like it would a normal mic jack or do you have to make adjustments?

Depends on your laptop I guess, but you may need something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812200956

Yes you will need to split it out before it'll work. I had the same issue at the weekend.

Failing that though use the new USB audio that Loopy is working on which is much better and works a treat.

I recently got the 3ds capture, works perfectly on my macbook.

However, when recording, I noticed that the audio on any video is the one my built-in mic recorded. In order to only record the audio directly from the 3DS, do I need this adapter http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-MUYH ... ql_qh_dp_t and use an auxiliar audio cable?

Thanks in advance.
