Hey, I have a New 2DS XL with a Katsukity capture card, and primarily I've only recorded with both windows for both screens in OBS as a single video. However, I was watching a Let's Play on a DS game and noticed that they were editing it as if the windows were recorded as separate windows, and I'm assuming either they have a Loopy capture card or they record the footage with 2 programs. Anyone know what other program I can use? I've tried testing out Camtasia & Bandicam, but Camtasia doesn't work for applications and Bandicam, as well as Meld Studio btw, was including the menu bar thing on the top. Also, in Meld Studio, I couldn't seem to crop the canvas to fit the window size, which I don't think can be done in OBS either, now that I think about it, so that's another issue I have about this.
Anyone know how I can do that on top of how to record both screens as separate videos?
What program can I use to record the bottom screen while recording the top with OBS?
Re: What program can I use to record the bottom screen while recording the top with OBS?
Just open a second instance of OBS.

You can do that? Cause I did actually try that once with the Steam version, but it said I could only have one instance of it open. Mind you, that was years ago, but that's part of why I asked about this.
Edit: Okay, so it turns out I misremembered and it just gave a warning when I opened a 2nd instance. I already forgot what it said, and now it won't pop up when I open it twice again. I think it was mostly saying something like, "Heads up, this could cause problems so be careful" or something like that. Thanks, man. Now I just gotta figure out how to set up the canvas to fit the shape of the window itself and also how to align them properly for a review video, if I ever opt to try it like that.

I've had some weirdness with trying two OBS instances myself, and sometimes stuff just gets a bit janky or you run into issues with window alignment like you mentioned. What I ended up doing for split recordings was using a separate screen recorder alongside OBS, so I could control window selection and output size more easily. That way, I could grab one window in OBS and capture the other with something else, then edit them together after. I had better luck with third-party screen recorders for things like cropping and window focus, especially when OBS got fussy or didn't want to play nice with captures.
If you want a Mac solution that can record just a section of your screen or a specific window, movavi lets you pick custom areas and adjust everything after recording in its built-in editor. I've found it makes side-by-side footage setup pretty straightforward if you're editing later.

You can use this Plugin in order to separately record sources even if they are not currently visible on your scene you are currently onCSDX wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 4:40 amHey, I have a New 2DS XL with a Katsukity capture card, and primarily I've only recorded with both windows for both screens in OBS as a single video.
