3DS Capture software additions proposal

Post by Akeyla » Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:11 pm

The 3DS Capture software is fine and dandy but sometimes wish there were 2 oddly specific things that I (and maybe others) would love implemented, and while there are makeshift solutions via the OBS preview window meddling and using video editing software, it would be nice to cut out those extra steps. Cobbled together some quick mock ups. Just throwing my thoughts into the air.

Proposal 1: Adding a gap in the middle

Some games have the gap between the top and bottom screens into consideration. Would love to have an option to extend that area myself by pixels count because every game treats this space with different lengths (I'm using a DS game in pixel perfect mode but this can also be applied to a handful of 3DS games as well).

Proposal 2: Grouping the screens side-by-side
A good chunk of games don't really use the bottom or top screen that heavily but people would still love to include them in their full glory. This would be extremely helpful for old DS/DSiware games than can be put in a widescreen video very fitting without having to resort showing them off upright (up and down). Can be done easily with OBS and what-not but I'd love to not turn it on or fiddle with adjusting windows all the time and want a clean look of both of them.

You can use 3rd party program such as cc3dsfs instead.
Adding a gap is not supported(I guess), but it has more features than Loopy's Original Software, like changing screen position or rotation.
Side-by-Side also possible in cc3dsfs! (Video Settings->Screens Relative Positions)

I personally wanted to add a gap setting myself, but was unsure about how many pixels to make it.

The solution proposed in this thread is really good! I had no idea it wasn't a standard gap across different games.
(Though it would be possible to have a list of user submitted presets for certain games)
You could then make game-dependent profiles with the gap height and width (if the DS is rotated) you set.

I'll add a setting for it by Sunday.

Sweet, I'll check it out. I didn't know this existed. Cheers.

I just added the ability to create a separator (the gap between screens).
You can play with it under Video Settings -> Separator Settings
It's currently available only on the nightly. A full release with it inside will come at a later date.
Link for the nightly's downloads: https://github.com/Lorenzooone/cc3dsfs/ ... tly-latest
Let me know what you think about it!

The screen gap is also available in side-to-side mode. It's for games like Rythm Paradise or M&L (BiS and DT, from what I remember), which make use of that mode with the DS rotated.

In general, you can make different profiles for the various games. So for those games where it makes sense to have the gap, you can have it there. Otherwise, you don't.

Just tried it out and both of the features work and look fantastic, thank you.

My only hiccup at the moment is that I use FRAPS to capture my footage, and fraps doesn't seem to record properly on cc3dsfs. Audio seems to capture fine but no visual/video.

I honestly don't think it's something that I can fix.
May I suggest using OBS instead, which has been reported to work?

I've spent way too much time messing around with OBS to get things looking right, so having those options built into the capture software would be a game-changer.
